Distraction Theft Concern Update

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

We are currently seeing an increase in distraction theft incidents occurring at the ASDA ATM in Southgate. Offenders are approaching indivduals while they withdraw cash, using distracting techniques to steal bank card or money. Intelligence indicates that vulnerable and elderly residents are being specifically targeted.

we urge the community to remain alert when using cash machines and to report any suspicious behaviour immediately. Early reporting greatly improves our ability to investigate these offences and take action to deter further incidents.
